Loyalty is slowly losing meaning in today’s world, with actions or behaviors that betray the trust, faithfulness, and commitment required to keep friendships or relationships afloat. Disloyalty can be anything from cheating in relationships, keeping secrets from friends, or breaking promises, to name a few examples.
Loyalty is also the foundation for faith in God. In Deuteronomy 31:8, the Bible reminds us that God will never leave us nor forsake us, even when we fall short.
In Matthew Jesus promises to be with us every minute of every day, even when we fail to be loyal and steadfast to Him, “And surely I am with you always, even to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20b).
The Bible urges us to be loyal despite hardship, with believers showing loyalty to God through devotion and commitment by following His commands. “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me” (Mark 8:34).
That is the true definition of loyalty.
