The greatest commandment in the Bible is love, and it’s not just love for God but love for others or one’s neighbors, as Jesus puts it.
The parable of the Good Samaritan found in the Gospel of Luke exemplifies the love of one’s neighbor. In this story, a compassionate Samaritan stops to help a wounded traveler on the road, despite their cultural and religious differences.
As Christians, we are called to love others and do good, regardless of our differences. But love alone is not enough; our love should be accompanied by actions. 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 reminds us that, “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.” So, let us love one another as we have been charged to do.
